In 2006, the European Union passed the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS) Directive into law. Effective July 2006, the RoHS Directive (2002/95/EC) banned the sale of all new electrical and electronic equipment that contains more than designated maximum allowable levels of;
- Hexavalent Chromium
- Polybrominated Biphenyl (PBB)
- Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE)
- Decabromine Diphenyl Ether (DECA BDE)
In May 2011, an updated RoHS2 directive (2011/65/EU) added new categories to the list of affected end products, but the list of restricted substances and permitted levels was not changed.
Due to the wide ranging industries that we serve, Appian Fasteners certify all products supplied by Appian Fasteners are RoHS compliant unless expressly identified as non compliant stock before sale.
REACH is a European Community Regulation on chemicals and their safe use (EC 1907/2006). It deals with the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemical substances. The law entered into force on 1 June 2007. The goal of REACH is to improve the protection of human health and the environment through the better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances. Currently the European Chemicals Agency identifies 181 SVHC’s (Substance of Very High Concern) as potentially harmful. In accordance with Article 33 in the REACH regulation, it is our duty to disclose the presence of SVHC’s in excess of 0.1% of article weight.
Appian Fasteners is aware of its responsibilities put forth by REACH and is working with its supply base to ensure that we are compliant.
Due to the wide ranging industries that we serve, Appian Fasteners certify all products supplied by Appian Fasteners do not contain any Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) as a result of the REACH regulation candidate list unless expressly identified as non compliant stock before sale.
Appian Fasteners wants to assist its customers and suppliers from preventing the sourcing of certain metals, referred to as conflict minerals from being incorporated into its products.
Conflict minerals is defined as
derived from ores mined in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Appian Fasteners do not purchase raw ores or virgin metals.
Appian Fasteners purchases metal components through its global supply chain, all of which has been processed, in some cases, through multiple tiers.
Appian Fasteners does not knowingly use any conflict metals; however, Appian Fasteners does not, within its organization, possess the capability to trace, with certainty, the origins of the raw ores or virgin metals which are incorporated in its products.
Appian Fasteners will use commercially reasonable efforts to enhance its supplier audit process to verify the source of the raw metals which are incorporated into its purchases of metal components and seek sources which can assure that conflict metals are not incorporated in its purchased materials.
